Who it's for /

Is it right for you?

Regular check-ups are the simplest way to keep treatment small. Most people need one every six months.

Everyone, twice a year

Most adults and children benefit from a check-up and clean every six months. People with gum problems may need to come more often.

New patients

Your first visit takes about an hour, so we can take a full history, a 3D scan and a baseline set of X-rays.

Bleeding gums or sensitivity

Early gum disease and small cavities rarely hurt. A check-up finds them while they are still simple to treat.

Anyone who has put it off

If it has been years, tell us when you book. We start with a gentle assessment and never judge.

Step by step / What happens during treatment

Every step is explained before it happens, and you can pause at any point.

    Welcome and history

We go over your medical history, medications and anything that has been bothering you.

  2. 02

    Examination

Your dentist checks every tooth, your gums, bite and soft tissues, including an oral cancer screening. Low-dose X-rays are taken only if they are due.

    Scale and polish

The hygienist removes plaque and hardened tartar above and just below the gumline, then polishes away surface stains.

What to expect afterwards

A hygienist shows a relaxed patient her gum health on a hand mirror after a clean

Teeth feel smooth and clean straight away. More importantly, small problems are caught early, when a filling is still small or a gum pocket can heal with better cleaning at home.

Aftercare

  • You can eat and drink normally straight after your visit.
  • Gums can feel slightly tender for a day if there was a lot of tartar. A warm salt-water rinse helps.
  • Brush twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth once a day.
  • We send a reminder when your next check-up is due, usually in six months.

For most people, every six months. If you have a history of gum disease we may suggest a hygiene visit every three or four months, and we will explain why.

Most people find it comfortable. If your gums are sensitive, tell your hygienist: we can use a numbing gel or a gentler ultrasonic setting.

No. We take X-rays only when they are clinically due, typically bitewings once a year for most adults, and our digital sensors use a fraction of the dose of film.
